On 16 August 2017, PTJ in Canseleri Tun Abdul Razak (CTAR) conducted a fire drill exercise for the occupants of the entire CTAR block. This was the first fire drill exercise since PTJ moved to the building in January 2016. Conratulations all PTJ in CTAR Building for implementing what had been planned.
22 August 2017: OSHMO organized a special course on Refreshing Behavioral-based Forklift Safety Operation for laboratory forklift operators.A total of 30 laboratory staff members from various faculties attended the training. The course was held at Tun Teja Training Room in UMP Gambang Campus. Trainer is Azahan Safetyman.
Basic First Aid Training to train First Aiders appointed by respective responsibility centres or pusat tanggungjawab (PTJs). The training was conducted from 26th March, 2017. Participants were from various PTJs which had not had their own trained in-house first aiders. Trainer are Dr. Fatamar Bi Bi Abase, Cik Noor Hasniza Binti Hamzah, Puan Noor Ain Abdullah & Puan Nafisah Binti Ramlan Dari Pusat Kesihatan Universiti (PKU).
On 25 July 2017, OSHMO through the UMP Biosafety Institution Committee organized a course on Biosafety Awareness held at JJIM Seminar Room. This training was customized for lecturers, researchers and laboratory staff involved in research using GMO and LMO. The course was conducted by Dr Chua Teck Mean. President of Asia-Pacific Biosafety Association (A-PBA).
OSHMO and BPB successfully organized a Basic Course on Office Ergonomics & Handling Manual on 19 July 2017 held at UMP Pekan Campus Training Room. Dr. Mohd Nasrull Abdol Rahman from Ergoventure Training & Services was invited to conduct the course.
VC Walkabout Series 1/2017 was successfully held on 18 July 2017. The evnt was led by the Vice-Chancellor of UMP, Professor Dato' Dr. Daing Mohd Nasir Bin Daing Ibrahim who was accompanied by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic and International), Professor Dato' Dr. Rosli Bin Mohd Yunus, and the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovation), Professor Dr. Mashitah Binti Mohd Yusoff. Also present were the Registrar of UMP Mr Abd Hamid Bin Majid, the Bursar of UMP Mr Zainudin Bin Othman, the Dean of the Faculty of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Professor Dr. Kamarul Hawari Bin Ghazali, the Head of the UMP Security Division Captain Razman Bin Abdul Manan, the Director of the Department of Property Management & Development, Mr Marzuki Bin Mokhtar and the Director of OSHMO UMP Mr Muhammad Hairynizam Bin Muhd Taib.

On 6 July 2017, OSHMO hosted delegates from the Environment, Occupational Safety and Health Management Unit of Universiti Malaysia Kelantan (UMK) led by Ms Norhidayah binti Mat Sout who made a benchmarking visit to UMP. The aim of the visit was to share views and experience in managing aspects of occupational safety and health of the laboratory of the Faculty of Chemical and Natural Resources Engineering of UMP.
On 5 July 2017, OSHMO organized a course for Safety Committee held at UMP Gambang Campus Training Room. A total of 40 UMP members of staff appointed as OSH coordinators at their respective responsibility centres or pusat tanggungjawab (PTJs) attended the course. It is hoped that such course would be able to help PTJ OSH coordinators in managing OSH issues at their respective PTJs successfully.
Kuantan, 15 May 2017 – In line with the Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP) “Communitisng Technology” slogan, Occupational Safety and Health Management Office (OSHMO) has responded to this by organizing a course on Safe Handling of Equipment with Mercury and Mercury Compounds for teachers and laboratory assistants from schools within the vicinity of Kuantan and Pekan. The course was held at the Training Room of UMP Gambang Campus Main Administrative Complex Building. A total of 40 participants attended the course which was offered free of charge as part of community service. The training was conducted by Dr. Abdul Aziz Mohd Azoddein, a senior lecturer at the Faculty of Chemical and Natural Resources Engineering of UMP.
According to the Director of OSHMO UMP Mr Muhammad Hairynizam Muhd Taib, the main objectives of organizing this course were to share knowledge on safe handling of mercury as well as to promote technology and products developed by UMP. “In addition, it also creates an opportunity to give exposure to and share knowledge on handling of mercury spills to the community at schools following increasing trend of cases involving mercury spills while handling laboratory equipment in schools and educational institutions recently,” he said.
Apart from that, the program would contribute to the University’s engagement in communitising technology through community service involving schools while promoting the University to the members of the community outside of UMP. The Mer Kit, a set of mercury spill handling product based on Dr Abdul Aziz’s own research was also introduced. The kit is a complete set of product used to control and handle mercury spills without causing any harm to the person handling it.
